Ladies of the Etxea is a spiritual, multilingual folk musical that unveils the events leading to the largest witch hunt in history from the point of view of the accused, 17th century Basque women, and how they organized against the Spanish Inquisition in order to protect their matriarchal, animist traditions.

After three years researching traditional Basque healing and ritual practices and writing the lyrics and core melodies for 41 songs, the current phase of the project is a special multi-year international artistic collaboration with Basque artists and composers to bring the musical to life with traditional instruments unique to the Pyrenees.

Our collaboration requires support so that we may work with musicians in real time in the Basque country and honor the work of the incredible artists that are part of our team.

You can support us as we honor the fierce Basque women who organized against seemingly insurmountable odds, the Inquisition, and help us remember that we can do the same today.

This work has been inspired by the recovery of ancestral history and a dedication to supporting matriarchs today and tomorrow.

By tracing the roots of heteronormative patriarchy, we believe we unravel its unstable origins.
